NSW Autumn School Holidays Art Classes Program

We are running FULL day, 3 hour, 4 hour and short 1½ hour ART workshops to keep your children busy in the holidays

Full Day – 9.30am-3pm   Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink.
3 hours  9.30am-12.30pm or 1.30-4.30pm   Bring a snack and a drink.
4 hours – 10am-2pm or 12-4pm   Bring lunch and a drink.

Mythology: Dragons and Castles Drawing and Painting

Ages 7-13 – Monday 16th April – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

Let’s venture into the mystical world of medieval castles, fire breathing dragons, serpents and other mythological creatures! The young artists will create a canvas painting among other mixed media artworks on paper. They will learn to utilise a range of art materials in this fun, full day art workshop.

I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream! Painting

Ages 5-13 – Monday 16th April – 10.30am-12pm

“I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!” The young artists will pretend they have their very own ice cream van and will create a giant ice cream cone on their very own canvas. They will colour, add patterns and design their ice cream cone with their favourite selection of ice creams – without forgetting the sprinkles and chocolate sauce! The young artists will have fun experimenting with artistic painting techniques like splattering and dripping.

Mario-vellous Illustrations!

Ages 7-13 – Monday 16th April – 9.30am-12.30pm – Bring morning tea and a drink

If you’ve rescued Princess Peach from Bowser’s Castle, this drawing workshop is sure to excite all of you young artists who wish to step inside the fantasy worlds of video games.

Learn how to draw all of your favourite characters from the Super Mario Brothers franchise as they race in go-karts, explore hidden castles, and verse each other in party board games! Select your avatar from a range of characters such as Mario, Luigi, Toad, Bowser, Yoshi, or Princess Peach and watch them come alive on the page through the use of fundamental pencil shading techniques.

Welcome to Wonderland: Disney Drawing

Ages 7-13 – Monday 16th April – 1.30-4.30pm – Bring afternoon tea and a drink

Enter the world of wonderland where reality and imagination converge! The Mad Hatter would like to cordially invite you to his happy unbirthday celebration. As the royal artist appointed by the Queen of Hearts, you will be learning some still life techniques to make your teacups look super realistic and creative. In addition to this, students will be guided to draw the ‘Alice in Wonderland’ characters in the style of Disney, using pen, ink and watercolour pencils. This will involve a close study of facial features, angles, gestures and body proportions.

Let’s Fall into the Season: Drawing (Pencils, Watercolour Pencils, Oil Pastels)

Ages 7-13 – Tuesday 17th April – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

Many people say that, “Autumn, is the year’s last loveliest smile.”

During this workshop, the young artists will begin to understand how certain objects and textual contrast play important roles in conveying what the season is about. By looking at various artists, they will be able to push their creative boundaries in the form of drawing.

Autumn Trees Painting

Ages 5-14 – Tuesday 17th April – 10.30am-12pm

In this workshop, the young artists will enjoy painting a beautiful, contemporary Autumn tree picture on a canvas using acrylics. Painting techniques including dabbing and dotting will be explored in this workshop. The young artists will also learn about warm and cool colours.

Australian Bushland Friends: Drawing and Painting

Ages 7-13 – Tuesday 17th April – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

This is a full day workshop which will have the young artists painting their favourite Australian bushland friends which will include cute possums, cuddly koalas, stunning lizards and many more! They will be producing a canvas and an array of other artworks using a variety of media.

Creatures on a Cherry Blossom Tree – Painting

Ages 5-13 – Wednesday 18th April – 10.30am-12pm or 1-2.30pm 

Your young artists will enjoy painting a small, silhouetted creature of choice sitting on a branch of a beautiful cherry blossom tree, on a canvas. Creatures include owls, bats and cats!

The children will learn some basic art techniques including dry brushing and sponging along the way. This workshop will teach the young artists how to understand the difference between warm and cool colours. They can choose to have a warm or cool coloured background for their blossoms.

Heroes Unite! Drawing, Painting and Mixed Media

Ages 7-13 – Wednesday 18th April – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

Calling all young artists out there who live a double life as a superhero, your mission awaits in this workshop!

Students will experiment with the stylistic elements of the Pop Art movement, to create a series of mixed media works illustrating the exciting daily life of a hero. As they embark on imaginative and daring visual adventures, students will also learn about perspective, colour coordination and various drawing techniques. These works will inform their final self portrait painting on canvas.

                                                                       

Frida Kahlo Inspired Portrait Painting

My Mother/Grandmother/Sister/Female Friend/Aunt

Ages 7-13 – Thursday 19th April – 10am-2pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

During this fun filled, 4 hour holiday workshop, the young artists will create a portrait based on Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo’s self portraits. The young artists will dedicate this artwork to a female in their life.

They will study how portraits can include costumes and other symbols that relate to the personality of the subject. They will draw a portrait of their chosen person in the style of Frida Kahlo and include an animal or bird that symbolises this person. They will also be given the option to dress this person in a costume that represents either their cultural heritage or which symbolises their interests. Decorative elements will also added to the clothes and background. Strong lines and bright colours will be emphasised in this work, and will be rendered in colour with acrylic paints!

What’s Fluttering From the Trees? Mixed Media (Drawing, Painting and Collage)

Ages 7-14 – Thursday 19th April – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

Do you think it’s magical when the maple tree starts to transition from green into various shades of red, orange and yellow? If so, this workshop is for you!

Your young artist will observe the vibrant colours of the maple tree in Autumn and develop technical skills in drawing animals such as deers. Different types of media will be explored including drawing, painting and collage will help enhance their creative abilities in art.

Minions and the Great Masters: Mixed Media Drawing

Ages 9-13 – Friday 20th April – 10am-2pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

This holiday workshop for young artists aims to introduce the concept of “appropriation” – combining popular culture images with famous artworks to create new meanings.

The young artists will study a famous artwork of their choice from a selection of images provided to them. They will learn to place their favourite minion character from the animated children’s film, Despicable Me, within this famous art work.

They will use a combination of coloured pencils, oil pastels, marker pens and washes of paint to render the artwork in colour.

Rumble in the Jungle: Drawing and Painting

Ages 7-13 – Friday 20th April – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

Take a journey through the Congo and meet our animal friends, exotic flowers and waterfalls! On this fun filled day, the young artists will create a colourful and dramatic canvas among other mixed media artworks.

Pirates at Sea: Drawing, Painting and Mixed Media

Ages 7-13 – Monday 23rd April – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

Ahoy, me hearties! ‘Tis yer cap’n speakin’.

Avast ye eyes on this workshop where all hands will be on deck to produce a canvas painting of a pirate ship venturing into the Caribbean Sea. Join the crew as we capture the beautiful island sceneries with watercolour, create mosaic collages of precious jewels and treasures, customise our parrot companion and much more! It’ll be a jolly good day as we learn about composition and how to create depth in art during our voyage together.

Tropical Flowers: Drawing and Painting

Ages 7-13 – Monday 23rd April – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

The young artists will explore a tropical, flower filled paradise full of exotic lilies, beautiful frangipanis and other favourite flowers in this fun workshop. They will create a tropical flower canvas alongside a variety of drawn, mixed media artworks.

Creep it Real: Mixed Media (Drawing, Painting and Collage)

Ages 7-13 – Tuesday 24th April – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

During this workshop, the young artists will push their imaginative boundaries by turning everyday subjects into something creepy or unusual. This will include making a bike fly into the galaxy, and creating animals of their choice talking and wearing clothes like humans. Different types of media and the exploration of using vibrant colours will be used in order to enhance their creative abilities.

Manga and Anime: Drawing

Ages 7-13 – Tuesday 24th April – 9.30am-12.30pm – Bring morning tea and a drink

This 3 hour workshop introduces the young artists to the fun packed world of Manga and Anime! They will learn the entertaining art of drawing in the unique Manga style – the actions, the eyes and of course the amazing hair and outfits. They will start with the basic principles of drawing Manga eyes, hair and bodies, and will then progress through to creating some scenes which will be rendered in ink and watercolours.

Cartooning

Ages 7-13 – Tuesday 24th April – 1.30-4.30pm – Bring afternoon tea and a drink

Guided by book illustrator, Karen Carter, the young artists will learn how to draw caricatures and cartoons of faces. They will focus on individual characteristics and develop personalities in their drawings. The students will learn and practice some basic principles of cartooning, including facial expressions and body language, before developing a character of their own. They will create a simple cartoon story rendered in a frame by frame format. The outlines for their cartoons will be done with ink felt tip pens and colour will be added with pencils.

Children who love to paint or draw and have already been to these workshops previously are welcome to attend again.  A different program of activities guided by our teachers will be given to these children on the workshop day.
