NSW Winter School Holidays Art Classes Program

We are running FULL day, 3 hour, 4 hour and short 1½ hour ART workshops to keep your children busy in the holidays

Full Day – 9.30am-3pm   Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink.
3 hours  9.30am-12.30pm, 1-4pm or 1.30-4.30pm   Bring a snack and a drink.
4 hours – 10am-2pm    Bring lunch and a drink.
90 mins – Two sessions daily 10.30-12 noon or 1-2.30pm

All art workshops MUST be prepaid by EFT, Paypal, cheque or cash to reserve your child’s place.

Cats, Dogs and other Cuddly Animals Drawing and Painting

Ages 7-13 – Monday 9th July – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

This will be a day full of fun for the young artists creating a wonderful canvas painting of our favourite feline or playful pooch as well as other cute and cuddly animals including ducklings, piglets and ponies!
A variety of other mixed media artworks will be made in this full day workshop too.

I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream! Painting

Ages 5-13 – Monday 9th July – 10.30am-12pm

“I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!” The young artists will pretend they have their very own ice cream van and will create a giant ice cream cone on their very own canvas. They will colour, add patterns and design their ice cream cone with their favourite selection of ice creams – without forgetting the sprinkles and chocolate sauce! The young artists will have fun experimenting with artistic painting techniques like splattering and dripping.

Oh Deer! 2 dimensional media (drawing, oil pastels and water colours)

Ages 7-13 – Monday 16th July – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

Do you think some animals look weird and have funny personalities? If the answer is yes, this is the workshop for you!!
Your young artist will develop their creative skills, artistic techniques and composition in 2 dimensional media. The artworks will range from drawing animals that are dressed in human clothes or accessories to animals just generally being silly. Inspirational artists Mia Charro, Deridre Wicks and Oliudio will be explored in this fun workshop.

Let’s Party – mixed media painting

Ages 4-13 – Monday 16th July – 10.30am-12pm 

This is a class for the younger young artist where they will create their own canvas mixed media painting featuring a creative colourful unicorn piñata complete with loads of lollies and a pop of pop corn. Expect the unexpected with a surprise ice cream cone to complete the party fun!

Tropical Paradise: painting

Ages 7-13 – Monday 16th July – 1pm-4pm – Bring afternoon tea,  a drink

The young artists will spend 3 hours escaping the winter chill drawing and painting exotic flowers, tropical sunsets and a hidden paradise.

Symbolic Self-portrait Painting

Ages 5-14 – Tuesday 10th July – 10.30am-12pm or 1-2.30pm

In this workshop, the young artists will briefly observe some self portraits by famous artists like Vincent van Gogh and Frida Kahlo in preparation for painting a self portrait on a canvas. They will include symbols in the background to  represent their personality and interests. Colour choice will also symbolize how they are feeling. The basic proportions of the face will be taught in this workshop too.

Super Heroes – drawing

Ages 7-13 – Tuesday 10th July – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

This is a full day workshop which will have the young artists drawing their favourite superhero. They will enjoy drawing a full character reference page and comic. Inking and colouring will be included.

It’s time for Hot Chocolate and Marshmallows: Mixed media (drawing, painting, water colours)

Ages 7-13 – Tuesday 17th July – 9.30am- 3pm Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

Winter is the season to get your ceramic cup out and fill it with hot drizzling chocolate, topped with marshmallows, cinnamon and cream! Inspired by watercolour artist Dalgura and chef artist ‘Little Miss Bento’, the young artists will be creating artworks based on the subject of food. This includes freshly baked cupcakes, creamy hot chocolate and a hot meal (bento box). They will be developing their artistic technical skills in creating texture, lighting and colour layering. Various media in drawing, painting and watercolours will develop their knowledge of the art world and enhance their creative abilities.

A Day at the Zoo!  Painting

Ages 5-13 – Tuesday 17th July – 10.30am-12pm 

Let us bring the zoo to us at Castle Hill Young Artists! The students will have fun on our adventure visiting cheeky monkeys, roaring tigers, slithering snakes and much more to create a canvas painting!

Manga and Anime: drawing

Ages 7-13 – Tuesday 17th July – 1am-4pm – Bring afternoon tea,  and a drink

This 3 hour workshop introduces the young artists to the fun packed world of Manga and Anime! They will learn the entertaining art of drawing in the unique Manga style – the actions, the eyes and of course the amazing hair and outfits. They will start with the basic principles of drawing Manga eyes, hair and bodies, and will then progress through to creating some scenes which will be rendered in ink and watercolours.

Unicorn painting

Ages 5-14 – Wednesday 11th July – 10.30am-12pm 

Celebrating the French Medieval “Lady and the Unicorn” tapestries which are exhibited at the  Art Gallery of NSW until June 24th, the young artists will paint their very own magical unicorn on a canvas. The unicorns of the European Middle Ages had a horse’s body, the cloven hooves and beard of a goat, the tail of a lion and a single spiral horn. Today, unicorns are everywhere and are once again a popular symbol of magic. Your young artist will enjoy sprinkling some glitter on their legendary creature to add a bit of magical sparkle.

Mythology- All Things Mystical :Drawing and Painting

Ages 7-13 – Wednesday 11th July – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

Let’s venture into the mystical world of medieval castles, fire breathing dragons, serpents and other mythological creatures including mysterious mermaids and majestic unicorns!
The young artists will create a canvas painting among other mixed media artworks on paper utilizing a range of art materials.

Jurassic Adventure:  Drawing, Painting and Mixed Media

Ages 7-13 – Wednesday 18th July – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

Let’s journey into the Jurassic era for a full day creative workshop producing an amazing canvas featuring huge Tyrannosaurus Rex, browsing Brontosaurus munching on leaves, sneaky, speedy Velaptor Raptors and many more!
The young artists will be creating a painting on canvas as well as a variety of other mixed media artworks in this full day workshop.

Realistic Animals: 2 Drawings

Ages 7-13 – Thursday 12th July – 10am-2pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

This four-hour holiday workshop for young artists aged 9-12 gives them the opportunity to draw realistic representations of creatures of their choice resulting in two artworks, the first in black and white and the second in colour. They will use a combination of graphite pencils and colour pencils on specialist drawing paper. They learn how to create a reverse black and white tonal drawing using white pencil on black drawing paper. In the second artwork they learn how to render a drawing using colour on coloured drawing paper and explore how to create tonal variations in colour.

Garden Discovery : Mixed Media (Drawing, Painting and Collage)

Ages 7-13 – Thursday 12th July – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

In this full day workshop the young artists will discover what really happens in the wonderful wonderland of their garden! They will enter the world of creepy crawlies, beautiful flowers, fluttering butterflies, flittering birds and the ever present curious kitty and sleepy lizards. A painting on canvas and other mixed media works will be completed on this day.

Tiger in a Tropical Storm : canvas painting

Ages 9-13 – Friday 13th July – 10am-2pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

At this four-hour holiday workshop for children aged 9 to 13, the young artists will create a canvas painting based on “Tiger in a Tropical Storm” 1891 by French Artist Henri Rousseau. They will learn how to draw a tiger or if they wish another creature of their choice from the wild cat family. They will be shown how to compose their artwork of the animal in a jungle setting and add elements reminiscent of Rousseau’s iconic painting. They will learn how to create the illusion of movement in the flora to evoke a storm like mood in the painting as well as how to mix colours and create tonal variations using acrylic paints.

Winter Wonderland: Drawing and Painting

Ages 7-13 – Friday 13th July – 9.30-3pm – morning tea, lunch and a drink

Your young artist will spend a day living in a winter world on the other side of our planet! This full day workshop features snowy landscapes and frozen ponds complete with ice skaters. The students will be looking at some amazing winter landscapes and scenes created by famous artists and will then create their very own beautiful winter themed canvas along with other artworks.

Children who love to paint or draw and have already been to these workshops previously are welcome to attend again.  A different program of activities guided by our teachers will be given to these children on the workshop day.
