NSW Christmas School Holidays Art Classes Program

We are running FULL day, 3 hour, 4 hour and short 1½ hour ART workshops to keep your children busy in the holidays

Full Day – 9.30am-3pm   Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink.
3 hours  9.30am-12.30pm or 1.30-4.30pm   Bring a snack and a drink.
4 hours – 10am-2pm or 12-4pm   Bring lunch and a drink.
90 mins – Two sessions daily 10.30-12 noon or 1-2.30pm

Details for Christmas School Holidays Art Workshops:

Christmas Spirit – Mixed media

Ages 7-13 – Monday 18th December – 10am-2pm – Bring lunch, a snack and a drink

Young artists will produce 5-6 A4 sized artworks at this 4 hour holiday workshop. Students will be introduced to a variety of mixed media techniques to produce Christmas Spirit themed artworks. They will learn how to creatively draw symbols of Christmas including reindeer, Santa, Christmas trees and candy canes using a variety of drawing and painting media. They will use collage, wet and dry media and explore a variety of techniques.

A Bush Christmas – Canvas Painting

Ages 7-13 – Monday 18th December – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

This is a fun filled day full of Christmas festivity, creating a colourful canvas, complete with Australian bush animals celebrating together. They will also create decorations and cards to complete this festive day.

Festive Fun in the Sun – Canvas Painting

Ages 7-13 – Tuesday 19th December – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

This is a fun day creating a festive canvas showing our bushland friends enjoying a Christmas day at the beach. The Young Artists will have kangaroos riding the waves, koalas on life guard duty and kookaburras keeping a keen watch. The day will also involve Christmas decoration and card making craft.

Glitter Christmas – Canvas Painting

Ages 5-13 – Wednesday 20th December – 10.30am-12pm or 1-2.30pm

In this workshop, the young artists will enjoy painting their favourite Christmas characters like Santa, Rudolph, elves and snowmen, or paint a meaningful Christmas story scene on a 30 x 40cm canvas. Artistic techniques including sponging and blending will be explored in this workshop. They may decorate with a sprinkle of glitter to finish it off.

Please Pass the Puddin’! – Mixed Media Drawing and Painting with Acrylics and Watercolours

Ages 7-13 – Wednesday 20th December – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

During this workshop, the young artists will explore a vast range of symbols and colours with a special Christmas twist. Various media in painting, drawing and watercolours will allow them to enhance their artmaking skills.  They will work on canvas, as well as paper.

Picasso Cubist Christmas Crackers

Ages 6-13 – Thursday 21st December – 12-4pm – Bring lunch and a drink

The young artists will create their very own cubist cracker canvas painting and enjoy creating a series of Christmas collage cards to go with their special Christmas pressies.

Snap, Crackle and Pop! – Mixed Media drawing, painting and collage

Ages 7-13 – Thursday 21st December – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

The smell of pine trees lingering from the Christmas tree, while sitting together opening presents joyfully! Yes! It is now time for Christmas! During this workshop, the young artists will make artworks that are based around patterns and objects found during Christmas time. They will be able to explore their creativity and different media. Join this workshop before the sparks of Christmas go out!

Santa Claus is Coming to Town – Painting

Ages 6-13 – Friday 22nd December – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

Your young artist will enjoy their day creating a canvas painting focusing on the hero of the day – Santa! The children will also make some festive decorations and cards to complete their festive day.

Mythology – Dragons and Castles

Ages 7-13 – Monday 8th January – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

Let’s venture into the mystical world of medieval castles, fire breathing dragons, serpents and other mythological creatures!

The young artists will create a canvas painting among other artworks.

Manga and Anime – Drawing

Ages 7-13 – Tuesday 9th January – 9.30am-12.30pm – Bring morning tea and a drink

This 3 hour workshop introduces the young artists to the fun packed world of Manga and Anime! They will learn the entertaining art of drawing in the unique Manga style – the actions, the eyes and of course the amazing hair and outfits. They will start with the basic principles of drawing Manga eyes, hair and bodies, and will then progress through to creating some scenes which will be rendered in ink and watercolours.

Cartooning

Ages 7-13 – Tuesday 9th Jaunary – 1.30-4.30pm – Bring afternoon tea and a drink

Guided by book illustrator, Karen Carter, the young artists will learn how to draw caricatures and cartoons of faces. They will focus on individual characteristics and develop personalities in their drawings. The students will learn and practice some basic principles of cartooning, including facial expressions and body language, before developing a character of their own. They will create a simple cartoon story rendered in a frame by frame format. The outlines for their cartoons will be done with ink felt tip pens and colour will be added with pencils.

Bondi Beach is the Place to be in Summer

Ages 6-13 – Tuesday 9th January – 12-4pm – Bring lunch, afternoon tea and a drink

The young artists will have a great time creating their own beach scene on canvas, and mixed media collage of all their favourite beach balls, fish and chips, ice cream, sand castles, sunscreen, hats, caps and sunnies. Use your holiday imagination and have fun in the sun.

Listen, It’s a Road trip!

Ages 7-13 – Wednesday 10th January – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

Long drives, suitcases, scenery and fun can make a great road trip but sometimes the unexpected happens. In this workshop, young artists will use their imaginations to create things they would do on a road trip with a special twist. Various media in painting, drawing and watercolours will allow them to enhance their artmaking skills.

Slip, Slop, Slap! – Mixed Media, Drawing and Painting

Ages 7-13 – Thursday 11th January – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

Do you enjoy the sun beaming down on you at the beach while you are eating your Golden Gaytime ice cream? Well this is the workshop for you! Young artists will be exploring different movements in Modernism while expressing what they love to do in summer. Different types of media will be used in order to enhance their creative abilities.

Under the Sea! – Canvas Painting

Ages 7-13 – Friday 12th January – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

Discover our underwater world through creating a beautiful canvas complete with turtles, dolphins and other marine life friends.

Sydney Harbour Fireworks – Painting

Ages 5-14 – Friday 12th January – 10.30am-12pm or 1-2.30pm

The students will observe and discuss Ken Done’s, “Celebration” paintings, then  create their own fireworks display over Sydney Harbour featuring the Aussie icons, the Opera house and harbour bridge. Glitter will be added to help light up the firework sky.

Fun in the Sun – Drawing and Painting

Ages 7-13 – Monday 15th January – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

This is a fun filled day exploring the beach and our coastland with our native bushland friends. A fun packed day creating a canvas, among other beach and animal inspired artworks.

Glitter Fantasy Painting

Ages 5-13 – Monday 15th January – 10.30am-12pm or 1-2.30pm

Fairies, mermaids, dragons, unicorns and many more fantasy animals! The young artists will create a 30 x 40cm canvas painting depicting their choice of fantasy creature. They will experiment with techniques including blending, sponging & scumbling. Then will be sprinkles of glitter to add a magical touch.

Rumble in the Jungle – Drawing and Painting

Ages 5-13 – Tuesday 16th January – 9.30am-3pm

Take a journey through the Congo, meeting our animal friends, exotic flowers and waterfalls. We will be creating a colourful, dramatic canvas as well as a number of other artworks on this fun filled day!

Big Beautiful Butterflies & Bugs Painting

Ages 5-13 – Tuesday 16th January – 10.30am-12pm or 1-2.30pm

Design and paint your own butterfly or bug on a 30 x 40cm canvas and learn some basic art techniques like sponging and dabbing along the way. Have fun decorating your original artwork with glitter and sequins to finish it off.

Under the Sea! Drawing and Painting

Ages 7-13 – Wednesday 17th January – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

George Rodrigue Inspired Blue Dog Painting

Ages 5-14 – Wednesday 17th January – 10.30am-12pm or 1-2.30pm

George Rodrigue was an American Expressionist pop artist known for his Blue Dog paintings in the 1990s. The young artists will observe and briefly discuss the blue dog paintings by Rodrigue. They will then create their own blue dog painting using bold and bright acrylic colours on a 30 x 40cm canvas. Pastel details will also be added to complete the work.

Fabulous Flowers Painting

Ages 5-14 – Thursday 18th January – 10.30am-12pm or 1-2.30pm

The young artists will paint a beautiful contemporary canvas depicting vibrant gerbera flowers painted in warm colours on a contrasting, cool coloured background. They will learn how to do interesting painting techniques including dabbing and dotting. Glitter may be added at the end to give their artwork some sparkle.

Exotic Adventure

Ages 7-14 – Friday 19th January – 9.30am-3pm – Bring morning tea, lunch and a drink

We will be journeying into an exotic paradise, complete with exotic lilies, elegant peacocks and other colourful birds and animals. The young artists will create a stunning canvas among other artworks to depict their journey!

Baby Animals Painting

Ages 5-14 – Friday 19th January – 10.30am-12pm or 1-2.30pm

The young artists will have fun painting their favourite baby animal on a 30 x 40cm canvas. Surface painting techniques including scumbling and sponging will be explored in this workshop. They can bring in a photo of the animal they would like to paint or use one of our templates and photos to guide them.

Children who love to paint or draw and have already been to these workshops previously are welcome to attend again.  A different program of activities guided by our teachers will be given to these children on the workshop day.
